The 685 is an extremely compact, concealable folding knife that boasts features and performance normally reserved for much larger knives. Based on the proven design of its larger counterpart, the 875, the 685 features stout stainless steel liners, 30% glass-filled nylon handle slabs and a textured wingwalk insert for a positive grip. However, its 2.9-inch blade makes it legal to carry in almost all jurisdictions.

In its manual configuration, the 685 features an ambidextrous thumb stud and a high-strength plunge lock mechanism for safe, reliable, and convenient one-handed operation. In its automatic version, the plunge lock does double duty as the firing button. Both versions feature a sliding secondary safety to prevent accidental operation of the lock release in the open position and unintentional firing of the automatic version. They also feature a spring steel pocket clip oriented for right-hand, tip-down carry in the pocket or waistband.

The 685 series includes high-performance blade styles. For users looking for extreme point strength and penetration capabilities, the Japanese tanto blade shape is ideal. For a more traditional look, the 685 is also available in a double-ground “fighter” profile. The blades of all knives in the 685 series are ground from .125-inch-thick 154CM high-carbon stainless steel and are available in either plain or partially serrated edge styles.
